Primary Function: Manufacture centrifugal pumps and other goods for the power, agriculture, water supply, and air conditioning industries

Description and Activities:
Kirloskar Brothers Limited is one of eight companies that form the Kirloskar Group. Kirloskar Brothers Limited was originally incorporated in 1920 and manufactured fodder cutters and iron ploughs. Today the company employs approximately 3,000 personnel and consists of three manufacturing units in Kirloskarvadi (Maharashtra), Shirval (Maharashtra), and Dewas (Madhya Pradesh). Kirloskar Brothers Limited is presently the largest producer and exporter of pumps in India. Other goods range from valves, anti-corrosion products, and turbines. Sales revenue for FY 2001-2002 amounted to $77.2 million.

Numerous Kirloskar Brothers Limited products can be utilized for India's nuclear power program. These include butterfly, check, gate, globe valves, and centrifugal pumps. A number of entities within the Department of Atomic Energy (Government of India) have purchased goods from this company, including the Nuclear Power Corporation of India, Limited (NPCIL) in Mumbai and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) in Kalpakkam. Kirloskar Brothers Limited pumps have been specifically purchased for the Kaiga Atomic Power Station's Unit-2 reactor as well as the Unit-3 and Unit-4 reactors that are currently under development at the Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS). Engineers from Kirloskar have also developed a high-capacity mechanical sodium pump for the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) in Kalpakkam.
