Description and Activities:
The Narwapahar Uranium Mine and Mill is one of three mines operated by the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL). Located 12km northwest of Jaduguda, the mine became fully operational in 1999-2000 at a cost of approximately $48.2 million. Considered one of the most modern mines in India, it has the capacity to process 1000 tons of ore daily. This is accomplished through trackless mining equipment and a decline and a vertical shaft. Trackless equipment includes many firsts for the Indian mining industry including the introduction of jumbo drills, low profile dump trucks, and passenger carriers. The decline also allows for the lowering of heavy equipment without dismantlement and the shaft provides for the hoisting of uranium ore and personnel. Ore extraction at this facility can be accomplished at depths of 140m.

The UCIL's new Management Training Center is also located in Narwapahar.
