Description:

This plant produces the zirconium cladding that is a necessary component for nuclear fuel fabrication. Zirconium and its alloy is often to used surround nuclear fuel because it is corrosion resistant, strong, and is relatively abundant. In the mid-1990s (around 1996), China agreed to furnish Iran the cladding plant in Isfahan. Authorities expected it to be completed by the end of 1999. As of May 2003, completion was close, but construction was continuing.
