Names: Alvand Tokamak Location: Nuclear Fusion Research Center (NFRC) Subordinate to: AEOI Size: n/a Primary Function: Nuclear analysis
Description: Alvand is a high-aspect ratio circular cross section tokamak. AEOI technicians built and began operating Alvand in early 1981. Its equipment includes a data acquisition system; a 3mm microwave interferometer for measuring line average electron density; a spectroscope in visual range; a residual gas analyser; a Korad K1000Q laser system consisting of a K1 Q-switched oscillator; and various other electric and magnetic probes. The NFRC has performed investigations of breakdown properties in the early stages of plasma formation, studies of disruptions, and experimental investigations of fluctuation in tokamak plasma periphery. The AEOI plans to upgrade the Alvand and may have done so before the end of 2003.
