Names: IR-0005 Other Names: INTC MNSR, Miniature Neutron Source Reactor (MNSR), ENTC MNSR Location: Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center Subordinate to: AEOI Size: 30KW Primary Function: Research and training
Description:
The Chinese-supplied miniature neutron source reactor (MNSR) went critical in March 1994. Its stated purpose is to produce isotopes and train reactor operators. IR-005 produces 30KW thermal power, uses light water as a moderator and coolant. The IR-005 core holds 343 rods, amounting to 900 grams of 90 percent highly enriched uranium (HEU). The fuel was supplied by the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).
