Name: The College of Science Address/Location: Saddam University University of Baghdad Subordinate to: n/a Size: Small, frugally equipped laboratories, offices, and classrooms Primary Function: Science research and instruction
Description: Allegedly some of the equipment for Iraq's nuclear weapons program had been moved to Saddam University, specifically the College of Science on the campus of the University of Baghdad. Upon inspection, the college facilities were determined to be inadequate for graduate research or any serious industrial development program. Some pieces of equipment, however, appeared out of place in the college laboratories. They were of slightly better standard than the above-mentioned equipment and may have been located earlier at another, presumably defunct, research site. The equipment was still in packing boxes and generally disused.[1]

Name: Laser Department Address/Location: Technical University Baghdad Subordinate to: n/a Primary Function: Laser research
Description: The laboratories of the Laser Department did not appear to contain laser or laser-related equipment that could have the potential to contribute to laser isotope separation research. However, in 1989 a since retired professor attempted to purchase a 40-watt copper vapor laser, which the university officials stated was for an undefined project aimed at exploring techniques for the determination of air pollution by measurements of backscattered light.[2]
