Chemical Capabilities
redline

Today Kazakhstan is not suspected of being engaged in a chemical warfare (CW) program. During the Soviet period, Kazakhstan housed only one CW facility operating as a dual-purpose chemical complex in the city of Pavlodar (northern Kazakhstan), which after 1987 was converted to civilian use. However, the plant has personnel with chemical weapons production knowledge. The plant also has dual-use equipment, which was utilized to manufacture commercial chemicals. Today the plant is operating as a joint stock company and produces civilian products.
