Sŏngch’ŏn-kun Biological Warfare Agent Testing Facility

Location: Sŏngch’ŏn-kun (成川郡), South P’yŏng’an Province (平安南道), North Korea

Size: A large-scale underground facility

Subordinate to: Possibly 5th Machine Industry Bureau (第5機械總局), Second Economic Committee (第2經濟委員會), National Defense Commission (國防委員會)

Primary Function: Testing, research and development of biological warfare (BW) agents

Description: According to Kim Wŏn Pon, director of the "Northeast Asia Research Institute (北東亞問題硏究所)” in Japan, in the 1970s North Korea built a large-scale underground facility in  Sŏngch’on-kun, South P’yŏng’an Province. Kim claims that the facility has been involved in BW agent tests on animals such as rabbits, rats and goats.
