Hydrogen cyanide, a blood agent, may form a significant part of the DPRK chemical stockpile. Reportedly, blood agents are produced at the following facilities: Aoji-ri Chemical Complex, Ch'ŏngjin Chemical Fiber Complex, Factory 297 (No. 279 Research Institute), Manp'o Chemical Factory, Namhŭng Youth Chemical Plant, the Sŭnch'on Calcium Cyanamide Fertilizer Factory, and the Sŭnch'on Vinalon Complex. Hydrogen cyanide could be used as a fast, knock-down agent against unprotected troop concentrations, although it is notoriously difficult to employ as a chemical weapon because of its extreme volatility. It is not known in what quantity North Korea produces or stockpiles this agent.
