Primary Function: Pakistan's leading center for training personnel in the field of engineering sciences and technology.

Description and Activities:
The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute is Pakistan's leading center for training personnel in the field of engineering sciences and technology. The institute, which was first conceived in the mid-1980s, ultimately began functioning in October 1993. It offers courses in the fields of computer science and engineering, electronics engineering, engineering sciences, metallurgy and materials engineering, and humanities. The institute's graduates are actively recruited by Pakistan's nuclear and missile entities. These include the Khan Research Laboratories (KRL), the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Air Weapons Complex (AWC), and Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF).

Representatives from the Pakistani government and its nuclear and missile entities serve on the Institute's board of governors.
