Other Names: H. A. Grové Navorsingsentrum (in Afrikaans); later renamed Pretoria Biomedical Research Centre Location: On the campus of the University of Pretoria Subordinate to: University of Pretoria Size: no information available Primary Function: H. A. Grové was a biomedical research center affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and the H. F. Verwoerd Hospital (later renamed Pretoria Academic Hospital) at the University of Pretoria. It may have carried out some subsidized BW testing under the auspices—knowingly or not—of Project Coast.
Description: H. A. Grové, which still exists today but has been renamed the Pretoria Biomedical Research Centre, seems to be a sizable research center that supports the training of medical personnel from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Pretoria. It also apparently carries out advanced research in the biomedical field. Given the association of one or two key Project Coast scientists with the facility—Dr. Daan Goosen was a former director of the center prior to joining Roodeplaat Research Laboratories—and the fact that Project Officer Wouter Basson testified that almost all of South Africa's key scientific research facilities, universities, and hospitals were involved in aspects of Coast research, it seems reasonable to suppose that it may have been contracted to carry out supplementary Coast-related BW research or testing. This remains to be substantiated, however.
