Missile Facilities

Advena/Kentron Circle

Other Names: Advena Circle Facility, Advena Central Laboratories

Location: 28° 01'S 25° 44' E, 20km west of Pretoria

Subordinate to: Armscor

Primary Function: Development and production of deliverable nuclear weapons

Description: The Advena facility was built in 1980. The facility was intended to expand nuclear delivery options to include ballistic missiles. The design of Advena's integration building indicates that South Africa was planning for an advanced weapon in the long-term. The building had enough space to load a warhead onto a ballistic missile. Each storage vault contained adequate space for one small re-entry body.
