Description: Ulchin-6 will be South Korea’s 20th nuclear power reactor. Construction began in January 1999 and is expected to begin commercial operation in June 2005. The main components of the reactor will be manufactured by Doosan Heavy Industry and Construction Company with ABB-CE as a subcontractor for engineering design and other components. Ulchin-5 and 6 will be South Korea’s last Korea Standard Nuclear Plants (KNSP) based on the CE-80 system design. The design of Ulchin-6 is similar to the previous Ulchin KNSP units with additional upgrades to improve the efficiency and safety.
