Primary Function: Production of electricity

Description: Shin’gori-1 will be a 1,000 MW(e) pressurized light water reactor based on an improved design of the Korea Standard Nuclear Plant (KSNP) called the KSNP Plus. Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Company will be the prime contractor while Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company (KHNP) will manage the overall project including licensing, procurement, construction, start-up, and plant operations. In September 2002, BNFL Westinghouse was awarded a contract by Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Company to provide components, instrumentation, and control equipment and technical services. Doosan is currently in the process of manufacturing the main components and expects to complete them by 2006. Shin’gori-1 is planned to enter commercial operation in September 2008.
