Description: In 1988, the AECS established a $3.6 billion plan for the construction of six nuclear power reactors, with a projected total output of 6,000MW. The reactors would begin operation in the late 1990s. Syria reportedly approached the Soviet Union, Belgium, and Switzerland to realize this effort. However, in 1993, Syria backed away from these plans due to financial and technical reasons.[1]
