Description: In 2001, Mohammed Ghafar, a staff member at Radioactive Waste Management Division (RWMD), AECS, reported to an IAEA-sponsored conference that the AECS had recently established his division and was in the process of planning the construction of a waste processing facility. He said that the organization was undertaking these activities to manage the waste resulting from the production and application of radioisotopes. AECS has established a separate, Radioactive Waste Management Division to oversee the collection, treatment, and storage of radioactive waste.[1]
