
Other Names: n/a Location: 140km from Damascus[1] Subordinate To: n/a Size: n/a Primary Function: n/a Description: Per an agreement signed between the AECS and the Russian Ministry of Atomic Energy, Russia's Atomstroieksport and Nikiet will construct a center for nuclear research in Syria. The center will be equipped with a 25MW light water pool-type research reactor. The agreement also provides for Syrian students to train in Russia at the Engineering and Physics Institute.[2]
Construction of the center reportedly began some time at the end of Cold War, but was suspended in 1992 due to lack of funds.[3]
