The Radioactive Waste Processing and Storage Facility at CNAEM is the only facility of its kind in Turkey. Developed as a joint project with the IAEA, the facility became operational in September 1990. It provides interim storage for the radioactive waste created by Turkey's two research reactors. The facility does not have the capability to reprocess spent fuel. [1] The radioactive waste here undergoes treatment processes including compaction and cementation. [2]
