Canada Has no Plans to Aid Pakistani Nuke Arsenal Security
The Canadian government has no plans to assist in improving protections for Pakistan's nuclear arsenal, the Canadian Press reported on Wednesday.
The Harper administration denied having a "bilateral agreement with Pakistan to enhance the security of its nuclear assets" and it is not "in any way contemplating negotiating one at this time," Canadian Foreign Affairs spokesman Ian Trites stated by e-mail.
A classified November 2011 memo had stated the Foreign Ministry was working "under the auspices of [the] Global Partnership Program to establish a nuclear security cooperation program with Pakistan."
That document was "erroneous," according to Canadian National Defense spokeswoman Elana Aptowitzer.
