Canada Remains Disinterested in Missile Defense

A recent report supporting participation in the U.S. missile defense program has not changed the Canadian government's stance against involvement, United Press International reported yesterday (see GSN, Oct. 6).

"We will not initiate discussions with the United States on this issue.  The issue is closed.  The United States ambassador has indicated that his government has no plans to ask Canada to join the program," a spokesman for Defense Minister Gordon O'Connor told the Toronto Sun last week (John Daly, United Press International, Oct. 10).
