India Sets Ballistic Missile Interceptor Trial for This Week: Sources
India is expected to conduct a trial launch of a ballistic missile interceptor on Friday, the Xinhua News Agency reported (see GSN, Jan. 19, 2011).
"The interceptor will be launched to intercept the indigenously developed surface-to-surface ballistic missile Prithvi in midair over the Bay of Bengal" near Orissa state, defense insiders said.
The interceptor trial is in accordance with the South Asian state's program to field a two-tiered ballistic missile shield.
