Iran Asserts Missile Ability to Strike Persian Gulf

A senior Iranian military officer on Saturday said the country's long-range missiles were easily capable of striking targets in the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf, RIA Novosti reported (see GSN, Jan. 5).

"The [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps'] surface and sub-surface systems as well as ground-to-sea missiles with very long ranges cover the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman," IRGC navy Rear Adm. Ali Fadawi said in a Fars News Agency report.

Fadawi said the Revolutionary Guard had extended invitations for nearby nations to participate in collaborative military maneuvers to support "lasting security and promote unity in the Persian Gulf" (RIA Novosti, Jan. 8).
