North Korea Stores Biological, Chemical Agents, South Says
North Korea maintains a stockpile of 2,500 to 5,000 tons of chemical-warfare agents and 13 pathogens that could be weaponized, the South Korean Defense Ministry said in a report issued today (see GSN, June 18).
Pyongyang is among the major national holders of biological and chemical weapons, according to a report to lawmakers.
Among the viruses and germs said to be in the North's disease arsenal are smallpox, cholera, yellow fever and typhoid fever, Agence France-Presse reported (Agence France-Presse/AsiaOne.com, Oct. 5).
