Taiwan Reported to Have Conducted Medium-Range Missile Test
The Hong Kong newspaper Apple Daily has reported that a Taiwanese military research institute last month conducted an unsuccessful test of a medium-range surface-to-surface missile capable of hitting Chinese coastal cities, Agence France-Presse reported today (see GSN, Oct. 10).
The missile, reported to have a range between 600 and 900 kilometers, was reported to have been tested Sept. 25 at a missile base in southern Taiwan, according to AFP. The test failed, however, because the missile’s thrust engine failed to start.
The Taiwanese Defense Ministry today refused to comment on the reported test, AFP reported (Agence France-Presse/Channel News Asia, Oct. 29)
