U.S., Algeria to Sign Nuclear Cooperation Pact
The United States and Algeria plan to sign a nuclear cooperation agreement next month, an Algerian official announced yesterday (see GSN, March 22, 2005).
"The two sides will work towards organizing sharing of experience and data, mutual visits by experts and specialists, and also conducting joint programs," said Algerian Energy and Mines Minister Chakib Khelil.
The agreement would be signed June 9, he said.
Algeria has two small research reactors, one provided by China and the other from Argentina, according to Agence France-Presse.
A group of U.S. experts would begin an exchange of visits next month, Khelil said (Agence France-Presse/Yahoo!News, May 20).
