The United States and a number of East Asian nations on Tuesday began a massive collaborative exercise in Thailand that is set to include anti-WMD maneuvers, the Philippines News Agency reported (see GSN, Oct. 20, 2011).

More than 13,000 troops are participating in this year's Cobra Gold exercise, including in excess of 3,600 Taiwanese personnel and close to 9,000 service people from the United States.

Also contributing personnel to the annual 10-day exercise drill are Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea.

The event is to include attacks on land from the sea, firing of live ammunition, and exercises on countering biological, chemical and nuclear threats (Philippines News Agency, Feb. 7).
