Timeline

he mid-1960s saw progress on a nonproliferation treaty, with a conceptual version approved by the UN General Assembly in 1965. The treaty was completed and opened for signature and ratification by individual states in 1968, and entered into force in 1970.

1965

The Pelindaba Treaty establishes an African NWFZ.

China and France conduct their last nuclear tests.

The Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) is opened for signature.

U.S. intelligence estimates North Korea possesses one or two nuclear weapons in violation of its NPT commitments.
