Global Security Newswire Wins Journalism Award

The Society of Professional Journalists recognized Global Security Newswire at its June 12 Washington Dateline Awards for an October 2011 article written by GSN reporter Elaine Grossman.  The article, “GE-Hitachi Fined for 'Significant' Security Breaches in Nuclear Fuel Effort," revealed that GE-Hitachi had paid more than $45,000 in fines for serious security violations for a new project in Wilmington, N.C., that would, for the first time, use lasers to produce atomic reactor fuel commercially.  The article, which the Society called "well researched" and "compelling," finished in second place for online news.  For more information about the award, read the GSN story.

GSN's newest reporter Doug Guarino was a first-place winner in a separate category for his series, "Fukushima Fallout,"  which he wrote for Inside EPA prior to joining GSN in March 2012.
