Smugglers Caught With 1.7 kg of Uranium

Romanian customs officials arrested five Moldovans who were attempting to smuggle 1.7 kg of pure uranium and 2 kg of red mercury into Romania for sale on the black market. The uranium and red mercury originally came from Russia. In 1993, more than 20 kg (44 lbs.) of red mercury and 20 containers of cesium were seized along the Moldova-Romania border.
