Launch of the 2019 Next Generation for Biosecurity Competition

NTI | bio is partnering with the Next Generation Global Health Security (GHS) Network to advance the biosecurity and biosafety-related targets of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA). Together, we are launching the third annual joint competition to foster a biosecurity professional track within the Next Generation GHS Network.

The U.S. withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty takes effect today, bringing to an end a 30-year ban on a class of weapons that both the United States and the Soviet Union recognized at the time were particularly dangerous and destabilizing. These banned, land-based shorter- and intermediate-range nuclear-capable missiles posed a hair-trigger threat to NATO and to Russia by reducing decision and warning time for leaders, due to their short time of flight to their intended targets.

NTI | bio and Africa CDC Convene Biosecurity and Biosafety Experts from Southern Africa

NTI’s Global Biological Policy and Programs team (NTI | bio) partnered with the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and the Africa CDC Southern Africa Regional Collaborating Centre (RCC) to convene more than 50 experts from the Southern African region on June 24-26 in Johannesburg. This was the first technical workshop of Africa CDC’s Initiative to Strengthen Biosecurity and Biosafety, which was launched at the 2019 Global Biosecurity Dialogue in Addis Ababa.

NTI | bio presents ongoing biosecurity work at Global Health Security Conference in Australia

NTI’s Global Biological Policy and Programs team (NTI | bio) participated in the first annual Global Health Security (GHS) Conference and an associated Military Health Summit in Sydney, Australia during the week of June 17th. The events drew more than 800 experts and officials from around the world. Vice President Elizabeth Cameron and Senior Program Officer Haley Severance moderated and presented in several sessions and convened a workshop to encourage greater inclusion of biosecurity-related risks into discussions about epidemic and pandemic preparedness.
