Ernest Moniz Awarded Jubilee Medal by Kazakhstan Ambassador Kazykhanov

NTI Co-Chairman and CEO Ernest Moniz
received a 25th Anniversary of Independence Medal today from the Republic
of Kazakhstan for his significant contributions to bilateral cooperation. Moniz,
the former U.S. Secretary of Energy, co-chaired the Kazakhstan-United States
Special Commission on Energy Partnership. Ambassador Erzhan Kazykhanov also
cited Moniz’s work on the Iran nuclear agreement and his long and distinguished
career in public service and academia.

The Jubilee Medal was established to encourage the citizens
of Kazakhstan and friends and supporters of the country to make significant
contributions to the development and strengthening of the statehood and
sovereignty of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as to commemorate the 20th
anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan.

Moniz began as CEO of the Nuclear Threat Initiative on June
1, 2017, and will serve as a co-chairman of NTI’s board of directors with
former Senator Sam
Nunn
and philanthropist Ted Turner, who together founded NTI in 2001. Nunn,
who has served as CEO since that time, will remain actively involved in NTI
projects.
