Statement from the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) Regarding Former Undersecretary of State Ellen Tauscher

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ellen
Tauscher, a devoted member of the Nuclear Threat Initiative Board of Directors
and an outstanding public servant who worked tirelessly to strengthen U.S. and
global security. Both before and after her public service, Ellen was an
outstanding leader in finance and business.

“We always will be grateful for Ellen’s leadership on foreign
policy, including nuclear security and non-proliferation, while in the U.S.
government, both as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and at the
U.S. State Department—particularly her commitment to ratification of the New
START Treaty.  She was a champion for the
U.S. national laboratories and was dedicated to increasing public awareness of
these critical issues.

“Ellen brought tremendous energy, sound judgment and
strategic wisdom to the mission of building a safer world for future
generations and will be deeply missed.”
