Botswana Readying Anti-Chemical Weapons Bill

The Botswanan government is drafting legislation for the national implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, GABZ FM reported on Thursday.

Justice and Security Ministry Permanent Secretary Segakweng Tsiane said the bill will focus on preventing the creation, manufacture, and transit of chemical warfare materials and their precursors. The legislation would also ban the use crowd control materials as a tool of war.

Botswana ratified the accord in 1998. It subsequently moved to implement the requirements of the CWC pact, according to Botswanan official Ross Sanoto.
