Iran Developing Seven New Satellites
Iran yesterday said it is assembling seven new satellites, three of which would be fired into high orbit, Agence France-Presse reported (see GSN, Feb. 9).
Tehran launched its first orbiting satellite last week, prompting concerns that the nation could use similar technology to build long-range ballistic missiles.
"Four low-orbit satellites weighing under 100 kilograms are under design and construction" and the other three would be placed in high orbit, said Iranian Communications Minister Mohammad Soleymani. Iranian engineers are developing all seven of the craft, he added (Agence France-Presse/Google News, Feb. 12).
