Nuclear-Capable Missile Tested in India
India today conducted a test-launch of a short-range missile that can carry a nuclear warhead, Agence France-Presse reported (see GSN, May 23, 2008).
The launch from the Integrated Testing Range at Chandipur-on-sea was a success, according to defense sources.
"It was a user trial of the army version of the 150-350 kilometers-range Prithvi," one scientist said.
India in 1988 conducted its first test of the surface-to-surface weapon, which can be loaded with 1-metric-ton conventional or nuclear warheads (Agence France-Presse/Spacewar.com, April 15).
