Portland Updates Bioterrorism Response Plan
Authorities in Portland, Ore., have adopted a blueprint for delivering medical treatments directly to locals in a bioterrorism incident, Emergency Management reported on Friday (see GSN, Feb. 12, 2009).
The city would previously have asked individuals to retrieve such drugs from a central location, but specialists said that plan might have limited the capacity of residents to obtain needed medical attention.
The Portland Metropolitan Region has assembled a roster of local entities -- including crisis responders as well as other organizations with significant quantities of workers -- to assist in the delivery of medical products over the initial two days following a biological strike (Cristin Corcoran, Emergency Management, Nov. 18).
