Russia's strategic missile forces this week are conducting a four-day drill that would simulate nuclear conflict, RIA Novosti reported (see GSN, July 16).

"During the exercises, the SMF will practice operations control in scenarios involving conventional and nuclear warfare," said a Russian strategic missile forces spokesman. "A total of over 2,000 servicemen and 150 theater- and tactical-level command-and-control centers will take part in the drills."

The event was scheduled to begin yesterday and to conclude Thursday (RIA Novosti, Sept. 7).
