Russian Official Warns of Terrorists' WMD Aspirations
Extremist organizations continue to pursue acquisition of weapons of mass destruction, a senior Russian security official said today (see GSN, Sept. 21).
Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev during a security forum in Sochi that "global terrorism is characterized by intentions to possess mass destruction weapons," ITAR-Tass reported.
"Terrorists are seeking to get access to facilities and technologies of chemical and bacteriological weapons, radioactive, toxic agents and biological formulas,' Patrushev said (ITAR-Tass, Oct. 5).
