Biosecurity Dialogues
Reducing the risks of biological misuse and enhancing global security
COVID-19 confirmed that biological threats—whether natural, intentional, or accidental have the potential to kill millions, cost trillions in economic loses, and exacerbate political and economic instability. Despite these risks, biosecurity — policies and practices that protect against the deliberate misuse of biology to cause harm — is often overlooked. Even governments and regional bodies committed to improving biosecurity frequently struggle to build sufficient biosecurity capacity. International organizations focused on global health and reducing risks posed by weapons of mass destruction tend to underemphasize biosecurity within their broader mandates.
NTI | bio works to strengthen biosecurity in countries and regions around the world. We identify and share practical solutions to close persistent gaps in the capacities required to prevent the deliberate misuse of bioscience and biotechnology. Our goal is to elevate biosecurity as a global priority—now and into the future.
NTI | bio assesses baseline biosecurity capacity, fosters a shared understanding of the risks posed by deliberate misuse of biology, and identifies actionable steps to strengthen biosecurity systems across countries and regions.
