Director for Development

Bio

Heidi Hermisson serves as the director for development at NTI. In this role, she is responsible for institutional funding from governments and foundations. She develops and implements fundraising strategy and helps individual teams and projects through all aspects of the fundraising pipeline.

In her previous position, she was development manager for the Environmental Film Festival in the Nation’s Capital, an arts and environmental non-profit in Washington, DC. At the film festival, she managed development activities from all sources of giving — individuals, foundations, corporations and government funding. She also led major fundraising events.

Hermisson has worked at the Brookings Institution in the Foreign Policy program and the Center on the United States and Europe. She also worked at the American Academy in Berlin as the Henry Kissinger Prize coordinator. Hermisson has been a member of the worldwide network Women in International Security (WIIS), and active in the DC, Berlin and Brussels chapters.

Hermisson has an M.A. in Political Science from the Transatlantic Master’s (TAM) program at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, during which she completed semesters in Paris and Berlin. She received her B.A. in German, French and Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh and did a Fulbright scholarship in Germany. She speaks German and French.
