Kaitlyn Gibbons was an intern with NTI’s Global Biological Policy and Programs team (NTI | bio). In this role, she supported the team’s work countering emerging biological threats through projects focusing on the convergence of AI and biology, strengthening the Biological Weapons Convention, and enhancing global biosecurity.
Her academic and professional experiences center on global health security, emerging infectious diseases, and biosecurity policy.
She has previously worked as an intern with the U.S. Department of State on outbreak preparedness in PEPFAR countries, conducted virology research at GW’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences, supported West Nile virus surveillance efforts outside of Chicago, and, most recently, worked for an NGO in Kampala, Uganda, where she collaborated with community health workers on infectious disease epidemiology initiatives and policy coordination with UN agencies. While studying in Geneva, Switzerland last semester, she attended various meetings at the UN and WHO, including the 50 Years of the Biological Weapons Convention event, and hopes to continue using both her scientific and global perspectives to strengthen biosecurity policy and emerging infectious disease preparedness.
