Shane Ward is an intern with NTI’s Global Nuclear Policy Program (GNPP). In this role, he supports NTI’s efforts to reduce global nuclear risks, focusing on Euro-Atlantic security and emerging risks at the intersection of artificial intelligence, nuclear deterrence, and strategic stability.

Ward is a McHenry Fellow and MA candidate in the Security Studies Program at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. He most recently interned with the National Security, Defense,and Aerospace practice at Albright Stonebridge Group and has worked across the private and non-profit sectors. In his spare time, Shane sits on the Leadership Team of International Student/Young Pugwash (ISYP), the European Leadership Network’s New European Voices on Existential Risk, and was a member of the 2024 CSIS PONI Nuclear Scholars Initiative.

His research focuses on European deterrence, emerging nuclear and non-nuclear strategic technology,and its impact on strategic stability in contested geographies. Shane has been published multiple times in the Georgetown Security Studies Review, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, and Nukes of Hazard, and has spoken at CSIS and U.S. Strategic Command on the US-UK security relationship.
