The CNS India and Pakistan Missile Launch Databases
Part of The CNS Missile and SLV Launch Databases
Want to dive deeper?
The James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS) India and Pakistan Missile Launch Databases record flight tests of all missiles launched by India and Pakistan, as well as space launch vehicles (SLVs) tested by India, that are capable of delivering a payload of at least 500 kilograms (1102.31 pounds) or traveling a distance of at least 300 kilometers (186.4 miles). The database captures advancements in both countries’ rocket programs by documenting all such launches carried out by India and Pakistan. The database will be routinely updated as events warrant.
The below infographic allows users to view missile and SLV launches over a period of time, and to select by rocket type, family, and launch results. Users can also view additional infographics and read expert analysis of the database. The full CNS datasets are available in Excel format (India) (Pakistan), along with information concerning exactly how the launches are recorded and the information is categorized.
The dataset and graphics were created by CNS’s Shea Cotton, Anne Pellegrino, Sam Meyer, Megan Gillahan, and Caroline Gustavson. Media inquiries about the database or accompanying graphics can be directed to Jessica Varnum at [email protected] or Michael Duitsman at [email protected]. Media are free to use the graphics in their reporting provided that both CNS and NTI are credited. Assistance with media use of the graphics is available upon request.

Glossary
- Space Launch Vehicle (SLV)
- A rocket used to carry a payload, such as a satellite, from Earth into outer space. SLVs are of proliferation concern because their development requires a sophisticated understanding of many of the same technologies used in the development of long-range ballistic missiles (e.g., propulsion, guidance and control, staging, and structures). Some states (e.g., Iran), may have developed SLV programs in order to augment their ballistic missile capabilities.
