About the image
In an era marked by geopolitical instability, climate change, and rapidly evolving threats, the resilience of nuclear facilities has never been more important. As the international community looks to promote access to peaceful nuclear technology, it must also confront the complex risks posed by crises. Ensuring the security and resilience of nuclear facilities is essential to upholding Article IV of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)—the right to use nuclear technologies for peaceful purposes—and maintaining global confidence in the expansion of nuclear energy. Unless governments bolster systems to protect nuclear facilities, the promise of Article IV could be undermined.
At the Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Parties to the NPT, NTI is pleased to present a side event on protecting the right to peaceful nuclear technology by strengthening the resilience of nuclear facilities in times of crisis. This event will convene government and independent experts to explore strategies for protecting nuclear facilities from catastrophic events—whether caused by natural disasters or human actions.
