#CranesForOurFuture Takes Flight August 6-9
This August 6–9 join us for the fourth annual #CranesForOurFuture campaign, the world’s largest and most visible demonstration of support for a world without nuclear weapons.
With great determination and grace, the survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki have dedicated their lives to ensuring that they remain the only people on the earth to ever experience the horrors of nuclear weapons used in war. “The world owes the Hibakusha immeasurable gratitude for their dedication to maintaining a decades-long taboo on nuclear use,” said NTI President and Chief Operating Officer Joan Rohlfing. “Nihon Hidankyo winning the Nobel Peace Prize is a welcome recognition of their sacrifice and commitment to a more hopeful future for humanity.”
At a time when the nuclear taboo is under duress, the Nobel Committee’s warning against any future use of nuclear weapons is a call to action to ensure that August 9, 1945 forever remains the last time a nuclear weapon is used. Next year will mark 80 years since the people of Japan suffered the unthinkable consequences of nuclear weapons, and the world should listen carefully to the stories of these courageous sentinels for peace so that history is never repeated.
