Enhancing Transparency for Bioscience Research & Development Report Launch Event

  • 13:15 – 14:45 CEST
  • Palais des Nations, Building E, Room XXII, Geneva, Switzerland

As rapid advances in bioscience and biotechnology continue to reshape our world, the risk of their misuse for developing biological weapons remains a pressing global concern. This raises urgent questions about how to enhance transparency and prevent the development of biological weapons.

The Ninth Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention in 2022 renewed an opening to advance discussions on confidence-building, transparency, compliance, and verification. In support of these discussions, please join NTI | bio for the launch of a new report that presents a comprehensive compendium of options for enhancing transparency in bioscience research and development to strengthen the global norms against biological weapons.

This event will explore key measures to enhance transparency and present concrete recommendations for BWC States Parties, private industry, and civil society. Topics will include:

  • Scientific, technical, and other methods for collecting and analyzing data
  • Procedures to support effective data use and reduce misperceptions
  • Institutional structures needed to sustain transparency efforts

Engage with leading experts as we examine how these measures can build confidence in compliance, reinforce international commitments, and kick-start new approaches to global bioweapons policy.

Light lunch and refreshments will be provided.
