Elizabeth Smith serves as a communications officer at NTI. In this role, she provides strategic communications support to the Government Relations team, which develops and advances legislative strategies aimed at reducing catastrophic threats, and the Communications team’s Critical Mass project, which works to build public and political support for a future without nuclear weapons.
Prior to joining NTI, Smith worked in USAID’s Inclusive Development Hub, which supported the needs of marginalized populations. Previously, she spent four years in Japan, where she studied advanced Japanese as a Boren Scholar before going on to produce and translate content for a Tokyo-based media startup. She also spent a year on a Fulbright fellowship in Seoul, where she researched the intersections between gender, social movements, and historical memory.
Smith earned her M.A. in Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University’s Fletcher School, with a specialization in Gender and Intersectional Analysis. She also holds a B.A. in Law, Letters, and Society from the University of Chicago.
