Accelerating bioscience and biotechnology offer opportunities to improve our lives—from advancing healthcare and agriculture to boosting the economy and addressing climate change. However, rapid scientific and technological advances also pose significant risks that the tools of modern biology could be exploited by malicious actors or cause an accident which could lead to the next biological catastrophe. Responsible innovation is essential to prevent misuse of these powerful capabilities while preserving their beneficial applications.
NTI | bio collaborates with governments, funders, researchers, and security experts to assess emerging biological risks associated with rapid advances in technology. We also develop innovative risk reduction solutions and work to strengthen national and international governance measures to prevent the misuse of modern bioscience and biotechnology to cause harm.
