Members of an International Panel of Experts guiding development of the groundbreaking Global Health Security (GHS) Index held their final meeting in London April 1-3, to discuss the weighting for scheme for the Index indicators. The GHS Index, an NTI | bio project, in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and The Economist Intelligence Unit, will identify, clearly and transparently, gaps in global capability to halt and mitigate high-consequence biological events. The Index and accompanying report, which will offer recommendations to fill capacity gaps, will be released later this year.
The International Panel includes renowned global experts in biosecurity and global health security who have helped steer the GHS Index in anticipation of it being used by international policymakers to advance global capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to biological threats. The April meeting was the third gathering of the Panel since 2017, and participants discussed weighting of Index indicators that will influence the rankings of 196 countries assessed by the GHS Index.
The International Panel of Experts meetings have been made possible through generous support from the Open Philanthropy Project. Learn more about the work of NTI’s Global Biological Policy and Programs team here.
