NTI at SynBioBeta, the Global Synthetic Biology Conference

NTI | bio experts are on the agenda at SynBioBeta, the global synthetic biology conference, taking place May 23-25 in Oakland, CA. The event is open to registrants only. NTI is participating in and affiliated with events throughout the conference, including two key events:

  • Wednesday, May 24 at 5:05 pm – NTI Vice President for Global Biological Policy and Programs Jaime Yassif will speak on the main stage for a panel titled, “Biosecurity: Safeguarding Synthetic Biology Against Misuse.” Yassif will appear alongside NTI consultant Dr. Sarah Carter. Yassif and Carter co-authored NTI | bio’s latest report, Benchtop DNA Synthesis Devices: Capabilities, Biosecurity Implications, and Governance.
  • Thursday, May 25 at 11:08 am  International Biosecurity & Biosafety Initiative for Science (IBBIS) Executive Director Piers Millett will give a “lightning talk” on the main stage, titled, “Safeguarding Synthetic Biology: IBBIS and the Common Mechanism to Prevent Illicit Gene Synthesis.”

Additionally, on Tuesday, May 23 at 1:45 pm Dr. Sarah Carter will speak on a panel called “Planning for Future Products of Biotechnology Today.” An hour later, NTI is co-sponsoring a breakout session with DNA Script and Raytheon on, titled “The Roadmap to Biosecurity: Are We on Track?”
